The good news is that you needn’t visit an expensive salon for getting a spa-like treatment. Here’s a list of seven DIY hair masks that’ll do the trick for you.
Egg and Lemon Mask
Eggs are known for their high protein content and other essential nutrients. They make for excellent deep conditioners that soften hair and add sheen to it. Apart from restoring the health of your hair, this hair mask keeps dandruff at bay, thanks to the antibacterial and antifungal properties of lemon.
Procedure:- Create the mask by mixing 2 egg whites and freshly-squeezed lemon juice. Mix well and apply on damp hair. Leave this mask on for 20 - 30 minutes and clean with mild shampoo and cold water to lock the shine.
Egg and Olive Oil Hair Mask
Egg and olive oil hair mask is another concoction that you must try at home. Depending on the length of your hair, you will need about 2 eggs or more to make the mask.
Procedure:- Separate egg yolks and whites, and whisk the yolks with about 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Once they have blended well, apply the mix on damp hair. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes or so, before rinsing with mild shampoo and cold water. This mask makes hair soft and supple.
Hibiscus Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
For those aiming for shiny, thick tresses, this Hibiscus hair mask is a must-have on your list. This flower and its leaves are natural ingredients that work wonders for all hair types. It is beneficial in treating hair fall and dandruff.
Procedure:- Mix Hibiscus flowers in plain yogurt and blend it into a fine paste. Make sure that the mask is thick enough by draining the excess water from yogurt before adding the flowers in it. Apply this mask evenly on your hair and scalp and leave it on for an hour. Rinse with mild shampoo.
Alternately, you can also crush the flowers and leaves of Hibiscus in pure coconut oil and boil the mixture for some time. Allow it to cool down and strain oil into a clean container. Massage this oil gently on your hair and scalp and keep it on for a few hours (or overnight) before rinsing off with mild shampoo.
Pumpkin Hair Mask
You read it right! The orange/yellow vegetable is not only used in cooking or carved for Halloween decoration, but also plays an important role promoting hair growth. Rich in vitamins, minerals and other ingredients, pumpkin can be used to pack a punch in a DIY hair conditioner.
Procedure:- Blend 2 cups of chopped and cooked pumpkin along with a tablespoon of coconut oil, honey and yogurt each. Make a paste and apply it on damp hair. Let it sit for 15 - 20 minutes before rinsing off.
Bhringraj Hair Mask
Bhringraj is an herb with several benefits. It treats hair loss, strengthens hair and prevents premature greying. Additionally, it acts as a natural conditioner and is used in various Ayurvedic hair oils. Use it on a regular basis for visible differences in the quality of your hair.
Procedure:- Mix bhringraj powder and amla (Indian Gooseberry) with a little water and create a smooth paste. Apply this paste evenly on damp hair and leave it on for 30 minutes to 1 hour before rinsing with mild shampoo.
You can also mix bhringraj powder with coconut oil. Even applying the juice extracted from bhringraj leaves directly on the hair and scalp can be helpful.
Fenugreek Hair Pack
Another common ingredient from your kitchen shelves, fenugreek or methi is incredibly useful for the hair. It restores the health of hair and gets rid of common problems like dandruff.
Procedure:- Take a cup each of fenugreek and amla powders. Mix them thoroughly with water. Let the powders soak in the water overnight. Apply this pack on damp hair the next day and rinse after 30 minutes.
You can also create a paste using fenugreek power and coconut milk. Apply this paste on your hair and scalp and rinse after 20 - 30 minutes. This will help you get a glossy and voluminous mane.
Yogurt, Honey and Apple Cider Vinegar Mask
Honey and yogurt are two of the best moisturizing agents. When added in a hair mask, these two ingredients lock-in the moisture to treat dry, brittle hair and add sheen to dull hair. Apple cider vinegar, on the other hand, takes away any excess oil from the scalp, which is often the root cause of several scalp problems.
Procedure:- Create a quick DIY mask by mixing yogurt, apple cider vinegar and honey, and blend them to a fine paste. Apply this mix on damp hair and leave it on for 15 - 20 minutes before washing off with mild shampoo.
These seven hair masks are your gateway to good hair days. Aside from using these home-spa treatments, you also need to consume lots of fluids and nutritious food to keep your locks happy. Further, you also need to stay away from hot styling tools and protect your hair from the sun.
