The 8th anniversary for Xiaomi went quite well as the company went on to launch its much anticipated Xiaomi Mi 8. Apart from, the Xiaomi Mi 8 the company also launched Mi 8 SE, a new TV, Mi Band 3 and its newly customised OS MIUI 10 backed by AI.
The newly launched flagship has shunned to have inspired heavily from Apple’s bezel-less flagship iPhone X and the recently launched Huawei flagship P20 Pro. The Chinese company also launched a new IR face unlocking feature, again inspired improved by the 3D face unlocking Face ID feature on iPhone X.
The higher variant of Mi 8, the Mi 8 Explorer Edition will come with an fingerprint scanner under the display.
Xiaomi Mi 8
The new flagship will come with a Full HD+ Super AMOLED screen with a notch at the top. The smartphone will have a 6.21 inch OLED display on top with a whopping 88.5 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display has a screen aspect ratio of 18.7:9.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 will come with the flagship Qualcomm processor – Snapdragon 845 SoC. It will pair with upto 8GB of RAM and 128 GB of onboard storage.
The smartphone packs in a dual rear camera of a combo of two 12 MP + 12 MP sensors backed by AI technology. Up front, it features a 20MP camera, again backed by AI.
The Mi 8 will be running the new and updated MIUI 10, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. Under the hood, it come with a 3400mAh unit.
Mi 8 will cost CNY 2,699 (around Rs 28,000) for the 64GB version, CNY 2,999 (around Rs 31,000) for the 128GB verizon and the Mi 8 Explorer Edition will cost CNY 3,299 (around Rs 38,000).
Mi Band 3
The company announced a new and upgraded Mi Band 3 with newly improved and bigger OLED display, where one variant will also support NFC. The new Mi Band 3 has 20 days of battery life with upto water resistance of up to 50 meters. It will cost 169 yuan (around Rs 1,800).
Mi 8 SE
The company also launched a toned down variant of the flagship Mi 8. The Mi 8 SE will be featuring a 5.8 inch AMOLED panel. At the back, the smartphone will pack in a dual rear camera of a 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor. Up front, it will bava a 20MP shooter with a 3120 mAh battery under the hood.
The device come with the newly launched MIUI 10 out of the box, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. Mi 8 SE will run Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, which was launched very recently.
The newly launched MIUI 10 will come with AI inputs for the maximisation of full screen usage. It has display gestures for the 'back', 'home' and 'recent menu'. Also the menu has been redesigned for new functionalities.
The new Xiaomi OS also has a AI portraits feature to customise the bokeh effects in a picture. The AI feature will be available on both front and back cameras, that will help to detect scenes blur image with respect to subjects.
